On Rotation: FAM by YODASHE
Yodashe, a London-based independent musician and producer, introduces "FAM" as the latest single from her upcoming self-produced debut album. Blending spoken word improvisation with traditional pop song structures, "FAM" oscillates between introspective contemplation and bold, exuberant declarations. The track showcases the synthesizer EDP Wasp, which adds a new dimension to Yodashe's eclectic sound.
"FAM," which represents a shortened spelling of "Family," reflects the camaraderie experienced within a music-creating community, akin to an extended family. Yodashe was inspired by her time at Goldsmiths University. To note, fellow Goldsmiths alumni Diego Torres-Cantu contributes his drumming skills to the track, further enhancing its rhythmic complexity and energy.
Furthermore, the song alludes to the French word for "Woman," or "Femme,” which further provides insight into the substantive themes explored within the song.
"FAM" serves as a celebration of spontaneity, playfulness, femininity, and the beauty of embracing the present moment. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant characters depicted in Jean-Luc Godard's French New Wave films, the French lyrics in the verses add depth and complexity to the track.
Influenced by the iconic works of Serge Gainsbourg, Françoise Hardy, and other artists in the French pop scene, Yodashe melds existential contemplation with infectious, confident pop refrains, crafting an engaging and intellectually stimulating musical journey.
With its infectious energy and thought-provoking themes, "FAM" stands as a testament to Yodashe’s creativity and vision.
