The lo-fi indie sounds of the Canadian duo Wotts are light, bouncy, and fun. Made up of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jayem and bassist/guitarist Ricky 100, the Ottawa band has dropped a stellar synth-pop track in their latest release, “ALLO!”. Harkening back to their roots, the group uses an indie synth sound that draws inspiration from artists like Pond and Djo, complete with some outstanding guitar work that feels almost dad-rockish in a way. As the first single from their upcoming EP, PETALS, “ALLO!” is about a new, blossoming love. Jayem says that the group “really wanted to capture those initial moments, where even being in the same room as the person can leave you feeling like a giant goofball.”
Unlike some of their previous singles this year, which have gone for a more mellow and chilled-out vibe, “ALLO!” is a shimmering blast of energy throughout, sure to inspire joy among listeners. Said Jayem: “If someone can vibe to this song and forget about the bad stuff for a bit, that’s mission accomplished for us.”
