On Rotation: VANDA "STRANGER"

VANDA, a Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based indie pop artist, songwriter, and producer, has released her latest single, “Stranger.” Already known for her poignant lyrics, VANDA’s latest release is all about the emotional turmoil of losing a relationship and the cognitive dissonance that comes with once knowing someone intimately, only to see them as a stranger.

The song opens with a fresh and bold guitar loop that perfectly complements VANDA’s ethereal vocals. She sings with an airy emotion, capturing the sense of confusion and loss that accompanies the end of a connection. The chorus kicks off with the line, "I push you away, now you're just a stranger; a love that I once had," which encapsulates the heart-wrenching realization of having to move on.

From a production standpoint, "Stranger" blends alt-pop and R&B elements to create a rich sound. The song begins with a minimalist approach, featuring a striking guitar loop and VANDA’s expressive vocals. As the track progresses, the energy builds with each change, adding layers of instrumentation that drive the song towards a climactic final chorus.

“Stranger” follows the success of her debut album "Sober In Another Life" released in November 2023. The track marks her first new music of 2024 and sets the stage for a series of upcoming singles. All in all, "Stranger" is a testament to VANDA’s ability to write emotion-filled lyrics while combining the catchy melodies and accessible structure of pop music.
