On Rotation: TYA Returns with Queen Anthem ‘Josephine’

We are told TYA is back from a year-long hiatus: seeing the quality of his comeback effort, ‘Josephine’, we are glad she’s blessing the music industry with her nuanced artistry again. Hailing from Vancouver, the young newcomer has been steadily growing over the last few years, refining her pop prowess and shaping her proud queer identity. All elements we find greatly in ‘Josephine’.

Firstly, that’s what we’d call a good pop record. Catchy, relatable, bright and uplifting: ‘Josephine’ fits all the right boxes, conquering the listeners with powerful vocals and a fresh production. Secondly, the song also represents a rather truthful offering for TYA, molding the track into a gender-euphoric and queer anthem. In it, the Canadian talent seeks to express the joy of daydreaming about someone, instantly and unexpectedly.

Notably, ‘Josephine’ also contains references to the 1959 classic film ‘Some Like It Hot’ - echoing TYA’s career in acting, with credits in Netflix's Midnight Club and NBC's Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist.
