Why should the devil have all the good music? The question asked by Larry Norman in 1972 still holds true today, as it is still a bit uncommon to see Contemporary Christian artists devling into down-home, genuinely rocking songs that praise Jesus. Yet, with its Stonesey swagger, blue-tinged leads and subtle country influences, the latest single from thurane, “Redeemer,” brings heavy rock punch to the music of the Lord. With lyrics based around Psalm 19:14 (“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength and my redeemer.”), thurane sings from a first-person perspective, singing about the joys that Jesus has given him in his life, and how his life has become abundant thanks to his “redeemer.”

With influences stretching out to much of the CCM zeitgeist of the past 15 years, such as Lincoln Brewster and Chris Tomlin, the Phoenix singer-songwriter has performed with the likes of Jonny Diaz and John James (of Newsboys fame), bringing with him an experience and a finesse to his craft that makes him stand out in the wide world of CCM. Here’s to wishing thurane continued success as he continues to sing the praises of his redeemer.
