A few years ago, in the late-2010s, the sounds of tropical house and its more pop-centric offshoots was taking the world by storm. Artists such as Kygo and Matoma led the charge as dance music become much more melodic and light, clearing the way for a flood of like-minded producers and singers to further popularize an already well-known sound. The Domain, a producer who has already received major label support from Sony, is seeking to re-energize the light bounce of tropical house for a new decade with his single, “Be There”. The highlights of this song come in the little details: the percussion, while most certainly bass heavy and true to its house core, also features hints of 2-step percussion that wouldn’t have felt out of place on an old Burial song, while the vocals, supplied courtesy of featured artist Coulson, are light and longing, a complement to the melodies in the song. Although there does exist a bit of a yearning quality to the track, the lyrics detail a kind of unknowing, unsure of whether the singer is certain with the current one that he loves. If any track is sure to be the toast of festivals like Tomorrowland in the coming months, “Be There” may just well be it.
