Majestic, anthemic: that’s how we would describe ‘Castles in The Sky’, the latest effort by British artist Simfonia. Introduced by strings with a high cinematic charge, the song soon welcomes Simfonia’s own vocals, so evocative and hypnotising, delivering dreamy lyricism at a slow pace. Long notes are what matters here, with bewitching, melismatic stylings working wonderfully in keeping the listener hooked to the record.
Only after a couple of minutes, the track seems to grow in intensity. First, a kick drum, soon joined by percussions and hi-hats. After an understated but needed build-up, ‘Castles in The Sky’ continues with dancy beats and eclectic synth work, really delving into the record’s ethereal nature.
Describing the inspiration for ‘Castles in The Sky’, Simfonia explains: “The past year, I was going through an identity crisis. My mental health overshadowed my creative workflow and I just had to slow things down. One day my creativity block drove me to a spot outdoors by the South Coast where I would just let my mind dream of wanting to chase a dream, no matter how impossible.”
