On Rotation: ROSALIE JAMES "GIRL I WAS"

Rosalie James, a rising British indie artist from Cornwall, has just released her newest single, "Girl I Was," which weaves interconnected stories and emotions through its introspective lyrics.

Inspired by songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush, as well as indie artists such as Bon Iver and Phoebe Bridgeres, “Girl I Was' ' showcases Jame’s own unique songwriting abilities for crafting poetic lyrics. The song delves into the complexities of past relationships and personal growth, with each verse revealing glimpses of shared experiences and individual struggles. Through honest reflections and raw vulnerability, "Girl I Was" explores themes of love, loss, and self-discovery.

Produced by Daniel Knowles the single can be described as somewhere between the worlds of dream pop, Americana, folk, and indie rock. The production further also showcase’s James' uniquely powerful yet dreamy voice.

In 2023, James was diagnosed as autistic, which she credits for allowing her to embrace her whole self. After working in social work, James decided to go back to her creative roots, using her artistic journey to reduce the stigma surrounding neurodiversity as well as raise awareness for domestic violence, addiction, and mental health.

Rosalie's debut album, "Full of Chemicals,” is set to be released in June 2024. With each release before then, Rosalie looks to continue to carve out her unique place in the indie music scene.
