Re:O - Reverie

Reverie is not about loss, it’s about reminiscing about those we encountered in our life.

Reverie – Re:O

Re:O, a UK-based Japanese alternative rock band, released their tenth single, “Reverie.” While staying true to their alternative sound, the song also starts a new chapter in their music that sounds softer, colder, and more reflective than some of their heavier past releases. Already known for blending Japanese alternative music with western metal influences, which has earned them the description of “Japancore” by fans, the band is ready to share more emotion. And for the first time since 2021, their latest release was written fully in Japanese.

“Reverie” is a love-lost song, telling the story of missing the person who used to be your everything. Through their songwriting, they compare fading relationships to snow falling into your hand, as they are both beautiful but impossible to hold onto. The song’s overall message is simple, sharing that even if people drift away, the memories stay, and you can always hope for the best of them. This emotional clarity gives the song a deeper power that is felt through the production.

Afterall, “Reverie” is a rock song at its core, as it features raw guitar riffs, synths, and soft bell tones. The guitars bring consistent energy, while the synth layers create a more distant sound. There’s a strong sense of space in the production that will attract fans of bands like Bring Me the Horizon (in their more melodic moments) or the dramatic style of BABYMETAL. And though “Reverie” leans more toward emotional alternative rock than traditional metalcore, it also carries shades of Japanese rock groups like ONE OK ROCK.

What makes “Reverie” unique is how this rock track mixes both power but vulnerable songwriting. This is further made possible with Rio Suyama’s voice as they sing gently through the verses before rising with strength in other parts of the song. All in all, “Reverie” is not just another heavy release. It’s a thoughtful, nostalgic piece that shows artistic growth and vision for the future.
