On Rotation: PROKLAIM "CELEBRATE"

Proklaim, an indie artist based in Windhoek, Namibia, released his latest single, “Celebrate,” which is an uplifting mix of lyric-focused hip-hop and Afrobeat tracks. While many Afrobeat-influenced songs focus heavily on danceable rhythms, Proklaim interjects his with lyrics and a freestyle-driven hook, giving a rarely- seen twist. His ability to balance vivid storytelling with the beat makes “Celebrate” truly something to celebrate.

The production was led at Pen Pushaz Studios and mixed by Wojtek Majewski at Audio Art Namibia. It blends classic Afrobeat percussion with Proklaim’s rap, creating an artistic sound from start to finish. The backing is also notable, featuring bouncing drum patterns and layers that make the track sound upbeat throughout. The Afrobeat influence particularly comes to light in the rhythmic cadence, while Proklaim’s flow adds a new contrast.

Lyrically, “Celebrate” is as the title infers - all about living in the moment. This is perhaps shown in the song’s lyrical process as Proklaim showcases his freestyle skills in the chorus, which adds to the track’s spontaneous feel. While the verses were not freestyle but written in the session, Proklaim delivers them with charm and rhythm.

All in all, the track blends in perfectly with the modern Afro-fusion and conscious hip-hop scenes. “Celebrate” should be added to the playlists for anyone who is a fan of Burna Boy, J Hus, or Sarkodie. If not, it’s still worth a listen as the song’s positive energy and easy-listening production make it a perfect addition to any feel-good (or celebration) playlist this spring.
