Packed with emotional intensity and paired with an equally intense music video, Vancouver-based electronic duo Oneo Fakind have released their latest single, an electronic odyssey called “Five Months of Herself, Six Years Later.” Tension is what keeps this song going throughout, as even in its slower and less frantic initial segments, there exists a kind of anxious feeling arising from the song; every sound pulses to create an atmosphere that will make listeners’ hearts race. Synths warble in and out of pitch, like flowing glass, furthering the tension by providing listeners with no clear anchor or bit of stability in the track until the middle of the song.

That’s when the track kicks into high gear, with a drum and bass breakdown that immediately picks up the energy, albeit not so much that it takes away from the tension in the song. It doesn’t drive the music as much as it adds to the overall chaotic atmosphere. Pair this with the aforementioned intensity in the song’s music video and you get a multimedia success that represents an artistic boldness that very few others in the electronic music scene seem to be able to produce. In short, Oneo Fakind and “Five Months of Herself, Six Years Later” are on the cutting edge of electronic music.
