miufly - Spring

'Spring' is a healing process, a learning process, and taught miufly to trust the process of creating art from start to finish.

“Spring,” in both its lyrics and its music, is urgent. Like knowing the last of what you’ve got between you and your partner is slowly fading away, but only one of you wants to recapture what’s being lost. The point in a romance when breaking up is inevitable but avoided, still clinging onto some deep connection that you first had with your partner. miufly’s production on this song is as chaotic and melancholic as the situation laid out in the song itself, its pulsing drums feeling like the pounding heartbeat one experiences when they don’t know what the future holds for themselves and their relationship. The synths in the song are equally jumpy, swelling masses of what sound like the meeting point between bells, marimbas and keyboards.

And then we get to the Canadian singer’s performance itself, which can be described as “tired” in the best possible way. miufly is tired of having to deal with the balancing act of deciding whether or not there’s still love in the relationship, not wanting to waste their time trying to figure out what the other person wants. It’s an exasperated feeling that many of us have dealt with, but not quite so clearly as miufly on “Spring.”
