On Rotation: MICHELLAR "Love Hearth"
Michellar, an artist based in San Francisco, released her latest track, “LOVE EARTH,” which is a five-minute call to action about how we need to start taking better care of our planet. Recorded in San Francisco and mixed and mastered in the UK by Tobias Wilson, showcases this deep message in a warm and intimate production.
The song opens with an acoustic and reverent tone, evoking the sounds of classic church music in a way. There’s a vintage quality to the intro, maybe calling to mind previous artists like Mazzy Star. The first lyric, “It’s all about the giving and taking,” opens the track to showcase the song's main theme of balance. Later on, similar lyrics follow like “It’s all about the telling and sorting…”
As the chorus arrives, the instrumentation gets stronger and makes the song’s message even more clear. It starts off with the pre chorus and lyrics: “The earth is changing before us… soon there won’t be any blue skies and seashells in the ocean.” This is when the almost devastating message of the song really shines. However, these strong and dark lyrics are lightened a bit by the contrast in the soft vocals and light production. One thing to note is that Michellar doesn’t preach in her lyrics; instead she reflects, making the listener bound to reflect on the future of the planet as well.
At just under five minutes, “LOVE EARTH” might not be a quick or a casual listen, but it’s a moment of pause. For fans of artists like Laura Marling, Nick Mulvey, or Norah Jones, this track offers something new with the same heart. With “LOVE EARTH” Michellar positions herself as an artist with a beautiful voice and also a powerful message.
