On rotation: MEGAN WHEELER "ACCEPTANCE OF YOU"
Megan Wheeler, a rising Florida-based acoustic pop artist just shared her latest release, “Acceptance of You.” It’s a dreamy and nostalgic guitar led track that speaks of heartache, but flows with a pop sound, making it the perfect release for summer.
Lyrically, “Acceptance of You” is simple, but also delivering some heavy hitting lines, such as the central lyric “I used to think I only wanted you, but now I've come to the acceptance.” In true acoustic pop fashion, Megan keeps her song’s lyrics clear and easy to understand, but also with that bedroom pop vulnerability. Although this is a song about moving on and a breakup, this is not a traditional “breakup anthem” as it’s a bit more introspective. The song offers a softer message that acceptance can be healing as well.
Production wise, “Acceptance of You” hits the message of the track with light acoustic guitar lines for the foundation. Megan’s layered vocals add a soft fullness to the track and the steady beat hints at lo-fi and hip-hop influences. However, throughout the song there is never a moment where the background overpowers her vocals or the overall emotion. At first listen, the tones might bring to mind early 2000s Disney Channel soundtracks, such as Vanessa Hudgens or early Selena Gomez. However, with its more modern sound, there are also hints of Sabrina Carpenter.
Megan Wheeler might just be at the beginning of her career, but she shows time and time again that she's a thoughtful songwriter and artist. “Acceptance of You” is a perfect addition to her growing catalog as it shows listeners the level of sincerity they can expect in the future.
