On Rotation: Maria Lane - ‘35 days’

Introduced by an intimate acoustic guitar, ‘35 days’ soon welcomes Maria Lane’s evocative and expressive vocals, taking the track towards modern indie-pop territories. Echoing the likes of Lizzy McAlpine and Phoebe Bridgers, the record embodies the same brand of young angst that thrives on relationship troubles and introspective reflections. An elegant offering, ‘35 days’ develops slowly, growing in intensity as we approach its end.

Based in New York, Maria Lane has been pursuing her project since 2021, and if what we hear today is anything to go by, she’s on to something real. We can only hope to see her back soon and showcase her nuanced and complex personality to the world.

Speaking about the song, Lane explains: “35 days’ is taken from my upcoming EP, it was written at a time when I was in a newer relationship and we were navigating long distance, and I was having a hard time with it. We would be getting into arguments all the time and things just felt different. When I was writing I just kept telling myself ‘okay only 35 days until you see him again, just breathe.”
