Dealing with MAL’s new single is a quirky, aleatory experience. You see, the band doesn’t follow classic song structures and sonic stylings, instead pursuing a unique path towards artistic authenticity. The result is a musical stream of consciousness that takes the group into dark, haunting and repetitive loops of rock euphoria - or drones, as they seem to call them. Guitars are detuned and drenched in big riff energy, while drums engage in sparse grooves and sudden spikes of intensity.
We just described ‘Madness As Lift’, the MAL’s latest effort. Anticipating a larger release to be expected later this summer, the record works wonders in showcasing the creative punch of the provocative American outfit.
Explaining the inspiration behind the track, the band declares: “We as artists realize just how fine the line is between dedicating oneself to the fringe ideas of some cult or to the never-ending flow of music in our heads and bandmates. Similarly, we choose to let the madness lift us.”
