From the opening Chainsmokers-esque vocal touches that kick off the song to its dreamy, longing chord progressions, alt-pop singer Madelyn’s latest single, “Nowhere Quite Like Home,” is a reflective, moody banger about beginning to be in touch with the familiarity of everyday life. The first single off of her debut EP, “Nowhere Quite Like Home” utilizes a variety of different sounds to make the track feel like a warm, relaxing embrace, almost to the point of nostalgia. Chief among these elements is the usage of a pedal steel guitar, which adds a little bit of country twang but, more importantly, gives the track a little bit of an ambience that really makes the dreamy moods and feelings of the song come alive.

Madelyn’s vocals, soft yet driving, define the track’s longing sentiment, yielding a sensitive track about how we fight and desire to outrun the people we are but end up comforted by the familiarity with all of it. It’s a coming to terms with the minutiae of our lives and how we react to it, and Madelyn’s voice expresses this resigned but peaceful feeling perfectly. Already backed by industry titans like the BBC, Madelyn’s career is taking off, and “Nowhere Quite Like Home” signifies a great start for what’s sure to be a stellar EP.
