''The gentle piano, gospel instruments, the horn section; they all work in conjunction to create this audio visual journey.''

Macarena’s new song ‘Libre’ takes inspiration from her latin background to create a beautiful track that talks about the freedom of the LGBTQ+ community. In collaboration with producers Jeremiah and Jesse, this song was crafted during pandemic time chaos. They were able to find refuge in the studio to create a soft latin pop track. Macarena herself talks of the message of the song being that “we deserve to live in freedom”. I find it refreshing for a latine artist to sing on this topic as it is increasingly relevant in the context of latin culture. Many find it difficult to come out and live their lives freely in their local communities, with the experience being a tumultuous journey for them. What is most appreciated is how this song tackles this in a way that provides a space of delicate escape. The gentle piano, gospel instruments, the horn section; they all work in conjunction to create this audio visual journey. The repetition of “libre'' makes you want to run into an open field of flowers. Her vocals are reminiscent of Mexican musician Silvana Estrada, in the melodic manner that they softly serenade you. Macarena’s freedom makes her an exciting new artist to look out for and I can see her rightly taking her space in the music scene.
