On Rotation: Lorsay - ‘Spring Fever’ EP

French outfit Lorsay is adamant about trip-hop not being dead. To support their claim, they gift the world a beautiful EP, ‘Spring Fever’, a hypnotising and spacious offering exploring the best stylings the genre has to offer: from mesmerising beats to long reverbs, passing through cryptic tones and soundscapes. There’s quite a lot of Portishead in it, especially in tracks such as ‘Brutes’, sharing the same melancholia and nostalgia often present in the British heroes’ material.

‘Invasion’ mirrors a sound that’s more electronic and cerebral, drawing a line to Massive Attack and hip-hop influences. It’s not a surprise if there’s such eclecticism in the record, that’s what trip-hop is about, after all. ‘Running On That III’ takes the record to a close in absolute glory, exuding cinematic energy and anthemic hooks.

Formed in 2020 and led by Alex Gomez (guitar, machines), singer Orey, bassist Rémy Peyrot des Gachons and keyboardist Fred Chauvin, Lorsay is an electro-pop group established between Paris and the south of France. Do not sleep on them - dive in!
