On Rotation: Liqueedo "1999"
Some songs don't even feel like songs but memories. 1999 is one of those tunes-the raw emotive tribute swathed in comforting glow, Britpop nostalgia. Drawing influences from the likes of The Beatles, Oasis, and The Verve, melancholy and comforting energy seeps into the track, folding past and present into something both deeply personal and universally relatable.
On a core level, 1999 is the dedication to a lost friend this spring that year, captured by the little pieces of lyrics he wrote at that time and has given room for breathing two decades down the line. It's a song about grieving, healing, reflecting, and finding your peace with the past. Liqueedo creates something with powerful vocals and stirring atmospheres that seems to hang in the air long after the music's gone.
Born Arturo Molinara in Salerno, his affair with British music started early on. A teenager, he started singing for a cover band-due to the urging of the very friend 1999 is dedicated to, no less. That album dedication promise? Finally made good on.
From international recognition down to the recovery process after a major accident, all eyes were on even Insomnia Radio UK-for everything included with Liqueedo and his old band Oceans. Crazy as life has been to this date, it is only the music alone that has pulled him in. During the pandemic, Pellegrini got together again with longtime collaborators Andrea Bruno, Gianmario Galano, and Federico Cozza, tending that flame anew, and that brought this deeply personal release into being.
After the unexpected results of OUT OF NOWHERE, with almost 40,000 streams and airplay in Italy, the UK, the US, Brazil, and Japan, Liqueedo is proud to return with one of the most personal and touching songs he has ever written. 1999, recorded at Goldmine Records with Maurizio Sarnicola, mastered by Giovanni Versari, Muse, Verdena, and Subsonica, is not a record but a time capsule of love, loss, and undying memories.
Liqueedo brings to the table, again with Andrea Bruno on bass, Marco Cassese on guitar, and Carmelo Orlando on drums, that Manchester-inspired sound into the Italian scene. Above all, 1999 is a reminder that some people, some moments, and some promises never fade.
