KELSIE KIMBERLIN - Road Trip

There’s something inexplicably relatable in Kelsie Kimberlin’s artistic output: perhaps it’s her lyricism, always drenched in personal experience and emotional themes, or maybe her evocative and dynamic vocals, often able to exude unmatched poignancy. On Rotation: Kelsie Kimberlin Returns with ‘Road Trip’

There’s something inexplicably relatable in Kelsie Kimberlin’s artistic output: perhaps it’s her lyricism, always drenched in personal experience and emotional themes, or maybe her evocative and dynamic vocals, often able to exude unmatched poignancy. Well, wherever the reason, we find ourselves deeply enchanted by her music.

‘Road Trip’ is Kimberlin’s latest effort, an honest and introspective offering by the Ukrainian-American songwriter. In it, she delves into the complex scenario of a toxic family situation caused by the revelation of a dark family secret. Such nuanced and dark lyricism is joined by an equally icy production, balanced over electronic beats and angelic harmonies.

As always, Kimberlin likes to curate her music videos: this time director Zack Gross lends his skills in conceptualising a visual story that emerges straight from the 50s. As Kelsie explains: “Road Trip’ is my song about reaching a breaking point after discovering a terrible family truth. The refrain of the song is about me jumping in the car and just driving away for a long, long time. In the video, set in the 1950s, I get into a red 1956 Ford Thunderbird convertible and head on down the road without looking back.”
