JENNY RÄISÄNEN - The Sun Between The Shadows
"Jenny wants to stand up for the weaker and fight against injustice in the world. This statement is the driving force to search for the sun between the shadows and defines the musical expression of the album."

Jenny Räisänen-The Sun Between the Shadows (ALBUM)
Jenny Räisänen, a Finnish artist based in Ireland, recently released her album, The Sun Between the Shadows, back in February. The collection of songs is hard to fit into a genre, with hints of indie pop, soft electronic, and even a little folk flair. Two songs that really stand out include “I Don’t Have a Clue” and “The Spark,” which also show off the range of the album, from heavier songs to more simple, feel-good ones.
Throughout the album, Jenny showcases her talent as a songwriter. For example, in “I Don’t Have a Clue,” Jenny uses each line to write about the feeling of being lost and not knowing what you’re looking for, while “The Spark” has lyrics that highlight friendship and the community who help you through tough times. Other songs have lyrics that focus on serious themes like violence, loneliness, and self-doubt, but Jenny shows that she is a songwriter who never leaves the listener in the darkness. Instead, she uses her songwriting to look for light, even in the hardest places. All in all, there’s a strong message running through every lyric and line about staying true to yourself.
Focusing on the prediction, the album mixes piano, pop beats, and acoustic guitars with a few electronic touchesl. Jenny’s voice is clear and controlled, which makes each song feel extra unique. Focusing on the standout tracks, “I Don’t Have a Clue” is a song that has more so a rock edge and high energy that sets it apart, while “The Spark” has a groovy, upbeat sound that brings a bit of soul-pop towards the end of the album. The songs are beautifully organized, making each easy to connect to if listening to the album as a whole. Even on a single listen of a song, each track is thoughtfully put together while also maintaining that indie-artist vibe that keeps it not being too polished.
If you’re a fan of artists like Ruelle, Agnes Obel, or even Florence and the Machine, Jenny Räisänen is one to watch as she brings something real to indie pop. She is notably an intentional artist whose songs manage to feel both easy and powerful, definitely bringing some sun between our shadows.
