Bringing back an indie pop sound is the heartbroken rising singer Jenna Roessler. With her second single release ‘simulation’, she tells the story of a boyfriend who is more interested in playing games (literally and figuratively). Rather than depicting herself as a damsel in distress, Jenna is fuelled by rage. She sees red when reflecting on the situation, but from this was able to craft the perfect pop punk ballad. The song starts with her relaxed melodic singing, but the chorus is backed by a grungy guitar riff that thrusts you into her enraged mind. The production of her music is carefully crafted, as Jenna Roesller curates the sounds with particular intention. With inspirations like Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter, Jenna Roesller forms a part of a new generation of singers that makes music for the young woman. What makes her music enjoyable is that one can relate to the situations and emotions she has endured. It reminds us (as the listener) that not only will these moments pass, but that we are not alone. You can sing ‘simulation’ whilst feeling better that you’re not the only person with a loser ex-boyfriend, and you have Jenna Roessler to thank.
