Slowly building her brand and sound over the past few years, Jen Ella seems to be evolving release by release, leaving commercial tropes and pop clichés behind in favour of more introspective, personal and nuanced artistry. Latest effort ‘I Must Go To The Party Alone’ is the strongest evidence of that, a rather obscure, jazzy-influenced jewel, boasting Lana Del Rey-Esque smoky and introspective vocals and relatable lyricism.

Built over polite drums, vintage guitar tones and a certain crooning quality, ‘I Must Go To The Party Alone’ showcases the growth Ella has been enduring the past year, especially after her move to London. Originally from Cork, the talented musician and songwriter has been travelling around Scotland and England, before settling in the capital.

Recorded by Ethan Garrett and co-produced by Jen Ella herself, ‘I Must Go To The Party Alone’ continues in the project’s tradition of personal storytelling, often drawn from Jen’s own living experience. A fantastic record.
