The latest release 'Better Than Me' is offering again an original 'pop house'. We are delighted to introduce The Domain.

Hi The Domain, welcome to AFX. What are a few words that would best describe you and your musical world?

I'm not so good with words but some of my latest reviews have said things like: "Skillfully navigating the intricate spaces between Synth Pop and EDM. With a bold disregard for genre conventions, The Domain blends catchy Pop vocals seamlessly with sun-soaked House beats and retro Synth Pop elements, creating a sonic experience that defies categorization."

How do you come up with ideas for new songs?

The ideas for songs alreasy exist in the ether waiting to be produced. All I need to do is be in the studio and they will inevitable be born into existence. It's not about trying to come up with ideas, it's about having as much fun as possible - the songs are just a byproduct of having fun jamming in the studio. The inspiration is already there.

What is your preferred method of writing and producing music, alone or in a team? How do you stay motivated?

I'm pretty much always producing by myself, and collaborating (for the most part) remotely, but I love working with local artists when I find them. Perhaps if I can relocate to one of the music meccas like Nashville or LA I can work more in teams. I'm always motivated and I'm always in the studio (at every opportunity!) it just depends HOW inspired I'm feeling. If I'm feeling very inspired I'll be working on a song that's awesome. If I'm feeling less inspired I'll load up a song that sucks - and turn it into something awesome.

Did your style evolved since the beginning of your career?

At the start the evolution in my workflow and mental processes was fairly slow. It's getting faster and faster. My style is evolving rapidly now. The sound and aesthetic of what I'm doing now is wildly different to the latest songs I have out. Just as I develop my ear as a mixer and discover new sonic palettes. I have a bit of lag time in between when I produce a song and when I release it so I'm always about a year ahead of myself. When I started working on this project I had no idea what genre it would be, I was just kind of making songs randomly. Prior to that most of my experience was with classic 90's influenced Hip Hop so it's completely different in almost every way.

Who or what are some of your greatest influences and how have they inspired the music you create?

Historically my influences have come from the realm of Hip Hop and Soul music, but none of that is relevant to the music I'm making now. I'm not trying to sound like anyone else. If I had to name names I would say the artists the are some way related to my new material would be mainstream Pop artists like Dua Lipa, Halsey, Taylor Swift etc. The artists I like most are literally featuring in my songs.

What does high quality sound mean to you?

As a sound engineer I think the word high quality sound is something that's reasonably objective. I think a high percentage of engineers can agree when they hear a great mix. I guess i would define it as great mixing and mastering, without any particular regard for the actual songwriting. For me when it comes to producing, I'm just looking for a feeling, a vibe, something that I can play on repeat and go into a pleasant euphoria. Something evocative that's not overhyped with a focus on sound design and tasteful arrangement.

Are you working on any new music or planning anything exciting collaboration that we can look forward to?

So many. I have an unlimited supply of new songs it's just that I don't want to just put them on Spotify without some kind of release plan. I'm good at making music but I'm poor at releasing and promoting it. All the songs on my Spotify I just put on there without any marketing or promo... I need to remedy that soon.
