“When You’re Down” is the hand that reaches to lift you up. A dramatic, cinematic track, the song is the latest release from self-described “alternative dark-pop duo” Haunts. Based out of the UK, and bonding over a mutual love of soundtracks and Hans Zimmer, Haunts’ fourth release is a spare ballad about sticking together during the toughest of times and seeking support from someone close to you. Elements of the song represent this connection: the kick drum representing the heartbeat between two people, the swells of instrumentation showing the rising of moods from low, low points. Through this, Haunts truly takes a cinematic approach to making music whose emotions can be felt down to the smallest detail.

The duo say that the song “is about offering emotional support and reassurance to someone who is going through a difficult time” and “a message of comfort and unity in times of hardship.” With another release planned for December and further releases in early 2024, expect more great balladry from this British duo.
