Some songs are made for quiet, intimate atmospheres. Meant to be played at low volumes. Songs to be studied and listened to rather than be screamed back in an arena setting. Leave those ambitions to others; Gunning For Allie are gunning for the biggest stages and brightest lights in music, and their latest release, the synth-pop anthem “Alive,” breaks new ground for pop-punk bombast mixed with electronic elements to become an early classic in their catalog. Influenced by the massive pop, rock, and electronic fusions of groups like The 1975, The Wombats, and Holy Holy, “Alive” combines massive pop hooks with somber content, specifically dealing with the passing of lead singer Joshua Mulheran’s best friend, a subject detailed in some of their earlier works as well.

But don’t let this contrast make you feel that the song is meant to be a sort of chilled-out, meditative banger. Gunning For Allie, as mentioned before, are looking for the big time, and the energy they deliver on this track is second to none when it comes to this kind of music. Major players have already taken notice- they’ve had their music spun on the famed Australian radio station Triple J- and it’s likely that soon, many more will discover the anthemic sounds of the group through their soon to be released EP, Sleeping Alone, set to come out in early 2024.
