With a fresh hybrid of country, pop, and ethereal R&B moods, Grant Brown’s “Low” is a showstopping slow burner made for late nights and long drives. Perhaps influenced by the continuing to grow trend of country singers turning from frat guys to sweet heartthrobs, Brown sings directly to the object of his affection in a sweet, tender baritone that calls to mind the warmth of artists like Mitchell Tenpenny and other country balladeers. But don’t think that Brown is operating strictly in a country-pop environment, as much as the song is dominated by the mix between those two genres: able to get his R&B on with the charged passion of artists like Usher combined with a skittering trap drumbeat.

The Nashville country-pop singer’s debut single is a statement piece from this rising artist, featuring production from fellow Nashville producer Jacob Frish, known for producing other tracks by Zac Hart and Brandon Davis. Although not technically his first release, having put out an acoustic EP last year, “Low” debuts Brown’s new image as a mature, impassioned singer and songwriter who sings about love with a true fire in his heart and in his voice. “Low” may be a lighter song, but Grant Brown’s voice and charisma bring a weight to the track that makes it unforgettable.
