Georgina Reilly – "Mr. Blue"
Georgina Reilly is making her way into the music scene with her own version of "Mr. Blue," a song written by her father, David Reilly, back in 1968. The song about a lonely man whose value is finally appreciated when he is gone gets a new lease on life with Georgina's version. Using the original for its full nostalgic value, she adds a modern layer to present both her artistry and deep family ties.
For Georgina, this single is so much more than a debut-it's a release that pays homage to her family's legacy, which includes her grandfather, the world-renowned classical harmonica player and MBE recipient Tommy Reilly. Reimagining "Mr. Blue," she brings together past and present, continuing the musical lineage of her family as she carves out her own niche.
The original acoustic performance of "Mr. Blue" by David Reilly was on Scandinavian TV back in the late '60s. Years later, it would be rediscovered by Georgina and felt compelled to share with a new audience. "I've always loved this song," she says. "When I watched my dad perform it on Norwegian TV, it hit me in such a personal way. Recreating it felt like the perfect way to honor both him and our family's story.
Working closely with producer Joe Vilardi and having her father on hand, Georgina shaped the track into a rich, emotionally driven song. "When my dad heard the finished version, he was so proud," she says. "He felt my interpretation really respected the heart of the song.
Though many know Georgina for her acting in Murdoch Mysteries, Showtime's City on a Hill, and NBC's Quantum Leap, music has always been part of her creative DNA. Born in the UK and raised in Toronto, she now resides in Los Angeles with her husband, actor-director Mark O'Brien. She keeps strong ties to her Canadian roots, having just wrapped production on O'Brien's second feature film, The Voices of Our Mother, shot in Canada.
Mr. Blue" is not only a testament to Georgina's musical genius but also a tribute to the eternal artistic spirit of her family. Poignant in its storytelling and modern in production, the track ushers in a promising new chapter for Georgina Reilly-one that's sure to strike a chord with listeners worldwide.
