Hi Goldie, can you talk about your music project? What first inspired you to make music?

I never came to a point where I said ‘I want to make music’, I simply always HAD to write. Since age 6, I’ve been writing poetry and singing. In middle school I started to combine the two, which began my deep love of songwriting. I’ve always been a storyteller and growing up in a family of musicians, it’s always been in my blood. My artist project cannot be defined by solely one genre, although all of it is SOULFUL. Growing up listening to those who pioneered soul and rock music inspires me to bring back what once was with a fresh take. I’ve always had an affinity for vintage and real instruments. My goal is to be authentic and tell stories that are raw and honest.

What's the best advice you've ever received about pursuing a career in music?

Remember your “why”. In a market that’s so oversaturated and difficult to break into, you need to have an extremely thick skin and remember why you started in the first place. It’s not an easy road, but what will keep you going is your why.

What are some of your favourite songs to play live or during a recording session?

As for originals, Gone for Good, which is a song that will be coming out at the end of summer is by far my favorite song to play. It’s very New Orleans, Amy Winehouse-style. It’s a very soulful and super empowering song. As for covers, we recently started playing ‘Viva La Vida’ live, which was my dad’s idea. He’s also my bassist. We substitute the strings section for trumpet and create our own spin on it has been so fun! It’s such an epic song.

If you could collaborate with any artist in the world, who would you choose?

Okay, I will have to name a few because this is TOO HARD. Miley Cyrus Lady Gaga Sia Leon Bridges Mark Ronson

Can you describe your creative process?

It’s wild. I could be in the nail salon or driving my car and a melody will pop into my head. I have had to pull over on the side of the road just to write a song on many occasions. But it’s always different. Sometimes I get into rooms with my co-writers and we start something from scratch. I find the most unintentional, random creations are always the best. The writing part is the fun/ easy part. The recording/production always takes me/ my team the longest. I’m a perfectionist and don’t release things until I feel they match my vision.

If you had one message to give to your fans, what would it be

Never allow society’s limitations to put you in a box. Go against the grain. Believe in your vision. You are more powerful than you could ever believe.

Where do you see your career in five years as a singer-songwriter?

With a core fan-base of people who share my values of self-love and individuality and soul. Touring the world and sharing my songs. Writing for other artists is a huge thing I want to break into in the near future. So perhaps, maybe that will be my focus in 5 years from now.
