On Rotation: ENERGY WHORES "BUNKER MAN"
Looking for high energy music with a strong message? Well, that’s what Energy Whores - a rising group from the US- do best and their latest track, "Bunker Man," is no exception. It’s a narrative-driven commentary on wealth and power in the most dystopian sense. Coupled in hypnotic beats and alien-like synths, the song tells the story of a billionaire so obsessed with self-preservation that he burrows into an underground bunker to escape the nuclear apocalypse… which he caused in the first place.
Confused? We’ll try to explain.
Lyrically, the song doesn’t pull any punches, focusing on greed, paranoia, and the isolating consequences of living in a bubble (just like that found in a bunker of course). Around the halfway mark, the refrain “because it had no meaning all along... because it had no meaning” hits like a mantra, as the Bunker Man slowly comes to terms with this loneliness. Another standout lyric, “You’ll open a door to the inside, but you didn’t think of the devil’s side,” encapsulates the fine line between the man’s planning and his fallout.
Sound wise, "Bunker Man” has a consistent beat that keeps you moving even as the lyrics are at times harder to understand and follow. It’s okay actually, because the electronic production creates a sound that might even mirror the Bunker Man’s soon-to-be madness. Despite the narrative the song has a beat that makes you want to throw a dance party or power your next long-distance run.
The track might not be for everyone, but if you’re into artists like Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, or LCD Soundsystem, "Bunker Man" is definitely worth your next four minutes as it combines socially conscious storytelling and futuristic electronic production. Or, if you’re just looking for a high-energy track to add to your playlist, this song is also worth an add.
