Previously featured on this blog once already, young teen-pop sensation Edie Yvonne is back with another commentary on the complexities of life and relationships during adolescence with her latest single, “Girl Code”. With a pop punk influence that calls to mind contemporary luminaries such as Olivia Rodrigo and Tate McRae, the song has more of an edge to it than some of her previous singles, possibly due to some of her new collaborators. The song is her first to be written with songwriter Maddy Simmen, who has collaborated with such stars as Alana Springsteen and ONE OK ROCK, as well as her first to be produced by producer Rio Root, whose work has been recognized by an authority no less than the Latin Grammys.

With such a degree of star power involved in the track, it should come as no surprise that the hooks are electric here, and the authenticity needed to make the lyrics and message of the song stand out is on full display through Yvonne’s voice. It’s as though she’s not singing a song, but rather expressing how she herself feels on a day-to-day basis as she navigates the world of teen relationships. Continuing on the hot streak that she has established throughout the entire year, “Girl Code” further stakes Edie Yvonne’s claim as a major player in teen-pop. If she keeps this up, perhaps she’ll be working with the biggest producers in no time.
