EDHO - Waves

'Waves' can be described as a breakup song between a person and the environment they live in, and the people they used to be. It's about as much as letting go and not wanting to forget.

Psychedelic music can rarely disappoint. Trippy atmospheres and ethereal, swirling instruments create an immaculate vibe for a multitude of purposes. However, psychedelic music isn’t usually as progressive as the latest single from Italian musician Edho, “Waves”. Reminiscent of some of the more rocky sides of other forays into psych-rock, most prominently Let’s Start Here. by Lil Yachty, and influenced equally by modern lo-fi greats such as Mac DeMarco and indie stalwarts such as Arcade Fire, “Waves” is a slow, somber ballad that takes inspiration from his personal relationship with the city of London, the place where he spent a large portion of his life. The multitude of influences on the track results in a track that can be described as both psychedelic and barren, its emotional palate as complex as its sonic one.

Described by the singer as a different kind of breakup song in which the breakup isn’t necessarily between two people, but rather between a person and the environment that they live in, Edho’s voice sits kind of in the background, almost like hearing the distant, sharp melodies of Greg Gonzalez of Cigarettes After Sex. It is at once chilling, trippy, and passionate. This combination, this delicate balance between the anxious and psychedelic, is what makes Edho one of the most progressive musicians in the space today, and why “Waves” is a track that you have got to listen to right away.
