Drue & The Millions - The Drought

Drue & The Millions, an alt-pop band fronted by the multifaceted Einav Cohen, known as Drue, have unveiled their latest single, "The Drought." This new release showcases the band's distinctive sound, marked by a blend of melodies and experimental R&B elements, while delving into profound themes of loneliness and emotional desolation.

"The Drought" captivates listeners with Drue's relaxed yet mature voice, which lends a sophisticated edge to the track. The lyrics articulate the piercing sensation of loneliness and numbness experienced during profound sadness. Yet, amidst this bleakness, the song finds moments of humor and a sense of resigned acceptance, reflecting the complexity of navigating through personal despair. It underscores the realization that sometimes, the best remedy is to channel these overwhelming emotions into music and find solace in the creative process.

"The Drought" came about in a unique way as the band was at their producer Roy Salmon's house as he was preparing to moove out the next day. What began as a casual get-together turned into an impromptu recording session, with guitarist Aviya unexpectedly joining in. The result was a raw and authentic track, complete with the ambient sounds of clinking beer bottles and friendly banter, adding an organic feel to the song.

The band draws inspiration from an eclectic mix of artists, including Ella Fitzgerald, Erykah Badu, The Temptations, Lauryn Hill, Um Kulthum, and Fiona Apple. This diverse array of influences infuses their music with a unique blend of soul, rhythm, and storytelling, making their sound memorable.

Drue & The Millions originated in Tel Aviv in 2018, following Drue's notable journey to the top 13 on Israel’s X-Factor. Tired of singing covers, Drue focused on her original music and assembled a group of musicians to form her band. Key member Guy Herling, who handles keys and musical brainstorming, joined Drue to and they quickly put together a full-length show.

Their upcoming album, titled "About Time," encapsulates the band's journey over the past eight years. Starting as early as 2016, the album reflects both personal and global changes, capturing a wide range of emotions and experiences. Drue explains that the album's title signifies the culmination of years of growth and evolution—an acknowledgment that it was indeed "about time" these songs were shared with the world.

With "The Drought," Drue & The Millions are establishing themselves as a formidable force in the alt-pop scene. As they prepare to release "About Time," the band is poised to make a significant impact, sharing their unique sound and heartfelt stories with a broader audience.
