On Rotation: DEHUSSLAR MUSIC - NGA MIHI

DEHUSSLAR MUSIC, an Auckland-based producer, is sharing their debut track “NGA MIHI,” which was also the first single off their debut EP PREZ\@MINEZ. It’s a song but it is also a “thank you” to the festival culture that shaped them. The feel-good track pays tribute to late-night dance floors, wide-open skies, and the communal energy that is so often the core of the festival culture community.

From the first beat, it is clear that “NGA MIHI” was made for those 3AM moments. Like many of the most popular songs at festivals, the story is in the beat and the production is layered, with rolling basslines and high-tempo percussion that keep the momentum alive. The song was inspired by the likes of Shapeshifter, Lee Matthews, and Salmonella Dub. In this release, DEHUSSLAR MUSIC blends rootsy undertones with those iconic big-room festival drops.

Lyrically, there is little to analyze, however the song’s title says it all as it means “thank you” in Te Reo Māori. It’s a simple act of gratitude and while you might not find a traditional verse-chorus-bridge here, you are promised to get waves of build-ups, drops, and breakdowns that might reflect the ups and downs of a festival weekend. It’s a track that lets you feel and maybe even reflect a little.

While this is just the beginning, DEHUSSLAR MUSIC fits right into the growing wave of independent electronic artists coming out of Aotearoa New Zealand who mix their cultural roots with the best of popular festival sounds.
