On Rotation: Dann Taye "Candy"

Hailing out of Essex in England, the emerging talent known as Dann Taye will make his industry debut with Candy-an independent self-produced single. A dual rapper/producer and songwriter, Dann enters into the scene with a new school sound that fuses UK and US influences into something entirely different from either.

Candy is pure good vibes. It's the kind of track that picks up your mood immediately, fusing UK garage with hip hop and rap with a pop twist that seems ready for the charts and the dance floor. The beat draws you in, the rhythm keeps you moving, and before you know it, you're hooked. What really makes this track is the less-is-more simplicity to it-it doesn't try too hard. It's really one of those happy, upbeat tracks that's sure to have you hitting replay.

Even more impressively, Dann single-handedly both produced and wrote the entire piece. In this day and age of collaborations to make it huge, he is proving that doesn't have to be the way for his creation to come across with its intended impact. "Candy was created in my house studio in late-night studio sessions, time that seems like the best and most natural creative moments," Dann says. All this results in a track both personal and genuine, one very much close to his authenticity as an artist.

But that is not all; he has hinted at an album featuring everything from those songs tackling tough subjects to songs that are genuinely happy. There's already obvious versatility as far as his artwork goes, making it exciting to think about what he might do later. An A&R once said Dann Taye had the makings of a "mainstream global artist", and with Candy he's starting to prove them right.

Though he hasn't taken the stage yet, that won't be long; Candy is the first of many to come from an artist unafraid to take the leap and do it his way. If this is the starting point, Dann Taye will be in it for a very long time. Keep your ears out for him-he's only just getting started.
