With the holiday season winding down, it’s important to take a moment and reflect on the more spiritual side of the holidays. Much of our traditions surrounding Christmas come from older Christian traditions, chief among them the singing of hymns and carols. These songs often have a deep connection to those who sing them, and this recording of the classic sacred song “Oh Holy Night” by singer Danielle Bloom is a testament to how these songs take on new lives depending on the singer. In this case, Bloom uses her hard rock experience and astounding vocal chops to sort of reimagine the song as a more passionate, rock-influenced hymn. The song also features a strong production courtesy of Nashville producer Mike Farmer, giving the song some subtle country influences as well.

Bloom says that she recorded the song as a way to connect with her youth, when she would sing the song in church. Reflecting on these nostalgic moments made Bloom want to pay homage to this simpler time in her life, and her delivery on the track more than proves that she deeply feels every word that she sings. An astounding performance of a timeless song, “Oh Holy Night” is a major step forward for the recording career of Dnaielle Bloom.
