Cossmo – “home alone”

With his latest single “home alone,” Swiss artist Cossmo showcases a more intimate side of his artistry, sharing what may be his most vulnerable song yet. Written during a retreat in a small Graubünden apartment (with a studio setup just on the kitchen table!), the song sounds as vulnerable as one might expect. It’s a gentle indie-pop track that is built on authentic production, thoughtful lyrics, and a calmness that we all crave today.

From the start, the song’s themes are clear: pain, acceptance, and learning to let go of what hurts. Lyrics like “Pulling stitches from my scars” and “I’m giving all I got” paint the picture of healing…but not all at once and not in a rush. It’s deep and vulnerable. As the song progresses, there’s also a strong sense of time slipping by, especially in the lyric “How come it’s already September, summer passed me by.”

Sounds wise, “home alone” keeps the backing calm and intentional. The production is simple and authentic, with soft acoustic layers and a little beat beneath it all. There are no big drops or guitar solos (until the bridge which is more emotional, yet flows perfectly as well), but a raw backing that showcases the song’s personal message and themes perfectly.

When you first listen, the song might quickly bring to mind artists the sounds of Bon Iver and Noah Kahan. Like them, Cossmo relies on genuine songwriting skills and timeless melodies that are paired with unaltered vocals. However, where Bon Iver leans experimental and Noah Kahan leans into American folk, Cossmo finds a middle place. It’s soft, clean, and steady, with a focus on clarity rather than dramatics.

As Cossmo continues to adjust his sound and share more pieces of himself in his music career, “home alone” stands out as a telling release. It’s mature, reflective, and oh so personal. Fans of soft indie-folk artists will appreciate the familiar sound, yet also quickly realize that Cossmo’s voice and writing make this release distinctive on its own.
