Off the back of his recent single ‘Feelings’, a successful collaboration with Common Sense, Canadian newcomer Chris Caulfield is eager to promote a record originally released last year, ‘Stockholm Syndrome’. The single champions a rather haunting, melancholic outlook, boasting the typical cathartic and melodramatic energy that seems to inform Caulfield’s songs.

The talented Torontonian has always had the ability to modulate his vocals, going from soothing, evocative melodies to more fuzzy and granular vocal bits. It’s this eclecticism that makes Caulfield such an authentic offering, standing out in an industry that’s greatly overcrowded.

Sonically, we are in Billie Eilish territory, with ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ exhibiting a minimal and understated instrumental, highlighting the intimacy of the vocals. Describing the lyricism behind the song, Caulfield explains: “It’s about the struggle of treating chronic pain and painkillers/addiction and how the patient can encounter the pain-relieving and euphoric aspect, which have them “in love with their captor”, and the devastation they also unleash on their life, the darker side, and that struggle”.
