The time for bold calls to action is now. As injustice still affects people all across the world, there must be representatives in our music who are willing to take genuinely forward-looking perspectives in their songs and ideals. Cheri Lyn, a German pop artist who recently released her latest single, “Venus Calls,” is certainly one of the more bold artists in the pop field today. With a husky voice recalling legendary R&B singers like Etta James but with the modern pop tinges of powerhouses like Ava Max, Lyn is not merely displeased with the state of women’s rights, especially in the context of the “Iranian Revolution,” but willing to gather all women together and fight against oppression and sexism in the modern world.

The emotion in Lyn’s voice is carried by the almost march-like tone of the drums, a signaling of the coming revolution. This atmosphere of heightened tension gives way to a powerful chorus, with harmonies in the background almost represented the many voices that have and will continue to gather to fight off the aforementioned injustices that still plague many places today. With a new “pop/rock EP” on the way and major appearances with industry powerhouses like Ed Sheeran, Cheri Lyn is well on her way to becoming a defining singer and activist against the injustices of this decade.
