On Rotation: CERYS GEORGINA "DO YOU?"

Cerys Georgina, an indie pop artist from the UK, released her latest single, “Do You?” which is a pop-infused track that is all about the uncertainty found in new relationships or the dreaded situationships. With styled synths layered over a catchy drumbeat, the song sounds fresh yet also brings back some nostalgia from a decade ago.

Maybe it’s that her production has echoes of mainstream pop artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Miley Cyrus, and Taylor Swift’s pop era. However, Cerys brings sound features a more unpolished indie charm that makes you feel like you’re listening to the song live - with that Gracie Abrams voice note charm. While the song never loses its rhythm that creates an upbeat vibe, yet there’s an underlying vulnerability in the way Cerys delivers each lyric, especially at the start with a more whisper vocal. It’s the kind of rarity that can be listened to while driving on the highway in the sun or also in those late night moments of reflection - and you can’t tell which moment is a better fit.

Lyrically, “Do You?” kicks off with the personal storytelling focused lyrics “I didn’t sleep last night / you said ‘Neither did I’/ I’m running on an hour and a half,” which showcases the headspace of the song; one that perhaps was written while on a lack of sleep and not in the best of mind. Meanwhile, the chorus features more direct lyrics such as “I think I like you, do you like me/ Maybe we’re nothing…” These lyrics further play into the overarching theme of the song, which is basically asking someone if they feel the same way.

With an EP coming out soon, “Do You?” might just be the perfect introduction to this new chapter of Cerys Georgina’s career. Fans of indie pop or just general loved-focused pop songs, are bound to find themselves wanting to listen to more. As she continues to find her own in the indie pop space, Cerys proves that there are just never enough songs about situationships and we can’t wait for what is next to come.
