'Norwegian artist and songwriter, BUKVE, releases: Alive. The song is about being alive, but not trying or being able to enjoy and explore how it is to be fully living.'

Splitting the difference between shimmering ‘80s ambience reminiscent of indie rock titans like The Smiths and modern bedroom pop artists like Hers, Norwegian indie singer-songwriter BUKVE displays a heartfelt and reflective track on his latest single, “Alive.” Don’t let the two bands already mentioned fool you, though: this track is far more noisy and aggressive than even the most aggressive streaks of those bands, like “London” in the case of The Smiths. The bursts of noise in the chorus feel like the more massive tones of shoegaze bands like My Bloody Valentine; punches of guitar heaviness help carry the song’s deep messages about affirmations of existence and not being held back by our own personal restrictions.

The solo project of Sveinung Fossan Bukve, “Alive” marks the first in a series of singles in preparation for the release of BUKVE’s next album in spring 2024. Marking yet another line of influence for the kaleidoscope of sound that is “Alive,” the songs shifting dynamics between quiet, moody verses and noisy, impactful choruses make it feel very much like a product of the grunge era, the track wearings its hard on its sleeve. BUKVE is an artist that you cannot afford to miss, and “Alive” is sure to be only one piece of an extraordinary upcoming album.
