On Rotation: Benny Fisher "Love Come Back"

It’s a shame that some people don’t realize how broad the influence of The Beach Boys is on music today. Although their harmonies were their most identifiable characteristic, lo-fi environments and trippy, dreamy atmospheres might’ve not been possible were it not for their innovations. Benny Fisher seems to follow their more experimental lead in his latest single, “Love Come Back.” Although an understated song, complete with Fisher’s plainspoken vocals calling out for a lover hurt by his actions, there’s a trippiness to the production that gives the song kind of an otherworldly factor. It almost feels like how a difficult romance plays out it one’s head, narratively and emotionally shifting as Fisher grapples with how to salvage that which he has clearly damaged.

The song gets a much needed lift from former Italian X Factor contestant Colin Macdonald, whose backing vocals brighten the song up, the sun poking through the clouds in Fisher’s head as rays of hope for life ahead. Considering the beauty of the production, it’s crazy to think that Fisher did this on an 8-track recording setup at his house. But that’s just a hallmark of greatness: being able to perform well under any circumstances. “Love Come Back” is filled with intense emotion that listeners will not want to miss out on.
