On Rotation: AVA VALIANTI "LAUGH TRACK"
Ava Valianti, a Massachusetts based indie folk artist, has shared her newest single, “Laugh Track.” With a blend of acoustic pop and a folky twist, the rising singer-songwriter delivers a personal yet sharp track all about self-doubt and perception.
All parts of the song show off Ava’s songwriting talents, including her ability to be literal but also poetic. For example, the song opens with the lyrics, "I hurt more than I like to admit, but I always go along with the bit / I'll never forget when you told me, when people make jokes they're supposed to be funny.” In this, Ava quickly sets the tone for a song that balances a bit of humor with a bit of vulnerability.
Ava noted that she used the song to frame her life like a sitcom. Thus, she is questioning whether the people around her are laughing with her or at her. She even makes lyrical references to The Truman Show and Ted Mosby, further focuses on the theme of how we see ourselves and how we might fear others see us. In short, it’s clever, but also relatable, especially for anyone who has ever felt like a joke in their own story.
Production wise, “Laugh Track” leans into the rising acoustic pop sound, but with a unique folky edge. The production is clean, which gives space for Ava’s vocals that also have a bit of a soft folk flair, to shine. Airy yet controlled, her voice flies over the track’s guitar foundation, while subtle production adds the perfect amount of sparkle. It’s a sound that feels growingly familiar, especially for artists coming from the Northeast, thus fitting perfectly alongside today’s folk-pop revival.
Fans of Noah Kahan, Lilly Knotts, and even the fun-filled lyrics found in the newest release from Sabrina Carpenter will find a lot to love with “Laugh Track.” With this release, Ava Valianti proves once again that she’s a songwriter, storyteller, and artist with a meaningful vision . As she moves closer to the release of her debut EP, we are looking forward to hearing more of Valianti’s work.
