ATARI PILOT - Alone With Somebody

"Alone with somebody is a reflection on how we all at times wish for the world to get a little quieter and for us to be a little closer to someone"

It would be hard not to describe “Alone With Somebody” as a kind of response to the post-pandemic malaise and recession from physical interaction that the lockdowns of years ago caused. As we sank deeper and deeper into our bedrooms and our digital worlds, there developed a longing for the simple things; small physical interactions became special because they were physical. On their latest single, the British indie-rock band Atari Pilot pleads and yearns for real interactions with a person beyond the screen. Simply put, these guys are anthemic with a capital “A,” featuring stadium-ready hooks, pounding drums and synths that almost give off a bit of an EDM vibe. Every element of “Alone With Somebody” is presented as a breaking out, an opening up, a freeing from a confined space, in this case being the digital world.

As the newest release in a long string of singles (including five last year), “Alone With Somebody” seeks to continue Atari Pilot’s desire to put out life-affirming and positive messages, a very admirable position for a band to take when they could just as easily default to making basic songs. With new shows on the way, you don’t want to miss Atari Pilot. You may find yourself connecting to their lyrics more than you think.
