Arswain - Care
Freddy Avis, under his Arswain project, released his latest single “Care” last month, which can best be described as a direct and yet lively electronic track that focuses on keeping the energy alive. Released as the lead single from the upcoming album I Thought It Was Perfect, the song is memorable for its simple lyrics, message, and oh so reliable rhythm.
The lyrics might be as minimal as they come and are repeated throughout all parts of the song. The lines are just slight variations of “I don’t care at all / Don’t care at all.” This repetition obviously becomes the main and only real message of the song. Rather than using songwriting as a form of storytelling, the track focuses on a single idea of letting go. The phrasing is almost blunt, which gives a slight confrontational tone. At the same time, the repetition makes you wonder if it’s repeated as a reminder to oneself not to care instead of being an affirmation not caring.
Production wise, “Care” is full of energy as it is a track built on a classic dance track. The beat is consistent throughout, with layered synths that create an ultra hyper modern electronic sound. It’s easy to hear the influence from artists like Daft Punk and Justice in the looping style, though Arswain keeps the production just a tad bit more restrained with no major drops or dramatic changes. The track does build gradually but does not shift drastically. This makes “Care” the perfect track for dance and electronic playlists where vibes are meant to stay high.
All in all, “Care” fits perfectly within modern electronic and dance music genres. Of course, it is not a complex track lyrically or production wise, but that is by all counts intentional. By keeping “Care” simple, Arswain creates a focused first single centered on movement. This perhaps reinforces the idea of “not caring” about the subject that might have inspired the song in the first place.
