The rise in popularity of lo-fi bedroom pop in recent years has given rise to some of the most comforting and easy music one can find to enjoy. The “yacht rock” of the modern day, if you will. Artists like Eyedress, Dayglow and Men I Trust have captured a truly unique sound, one that numerous artists globally, big and small, have taken as their own when developing their unique styles. One of those artists is Norwegian artist and songwriter Andreas Grannes, who takes the soft rock influences on bedroom pop to the max on his latest single, “Royal Space Dog.” With a chill atmosphere that feels a bit like a slow drive by the sea at night, complete with twinkling guitars and pillowy synths, Grannes weaves the influence of the artists mentioned previously with a folky baritone, an enjoyable contrast that almost feels like if an alt-rocker from the 90s got their hands on some modern production.

Like the title suggests, the song feels celestial and otherworldly; great care must have been taken to split the difference between chilled out and ethereal, yet Grannes and producer Diana Hutch have hit it out of the park with this one. Expertly crafted and wonderfully written, “Royal Space Dog” is the next major entry in the canon of modern lo-fi pop music.
