AK STELLA - Running With Ghosts

Upon listening to AK Stella’s latest single, one cannot help but be mesmerized by the newcomer’s anthemic, powerful vocals, driving such a haunting and dark piece towards a glorious resolution. ‘Running With Ghosts’ is Stella’s debut effort, a pretty impressive business card for her future, if we dare to say so. Emerging from Los Angeles, the project can be considered the latest addition to the pool of brand-new pop innovators to flood the music industry this year.

From what concern us, we are pretty pleased with AK Stella. ‘Running With Ghosts’ feels eclectic, yet relatable and approachable. Perhaps a harder, saturated version of Billie Eilish’s existential gloom, the single could even be considered an alternative track, using electronica to replicate the same punch and euphoria that a fully-fledged rock-back can evoke.

Delving into the song’s meaning, AK Stella explains: “Running with Ghosts’ is about what it feels like to face adversity on your own. There was a 6 month period of time recently where I had a lot of bad things going on in my life (health scare, friendship loss, work and family problems, etc.) and I happened to be so isolated (this was during COVID) and had to deal with it on my own. It ultimately made me stronger, but it felt like I was trapped in a horror film and the only people I had with me were ghosts.”
